The second paragraph of the story is an example of symbolism due to the fact that it shows what the women and men’s roles were like in this time. It shows that men are the more dominant worker while the wife seems to be there just to keep him company.

Maître Hauchecome of Breaute.... shows an example of allusion.  The reader is expected to know what a "true Norman" is.  Allusion is a reference to a literary person, in which this case a true Norman is a literary person.

There was no use.... shows an example of theme.  The basic theme is how the people "abuse" eachother and they are searching for the pocketbook.
